Which Keurig Should You Buy, From the K-Mini to the K-Elite

October 27, 2026 · 5 min read

Put a K-Cup in any Keurig and you get pretty much the same cup of coffee. The pod does the majority of the work. So why are there so many different models and why does one cost twice as much as another?

The answer is really down to convenience really: how often you refill the water, how many cup sizes you get, and can the machine do anything other than just make one hot mug at a time. Work out which of those is important to you and the right Keurig will be easy to decide.

Start with the water tank

This is the difference you'll notice every single morning and it's also the one that people don't think about.

The smallest Keurig has no tank at all. You just pour in one mug's worth of water each time you brew. That sounds annoying, but for one person who drinks a cup a day, it's really not a big deal. For a couple, or anyone who goes back for a second cup, it can become tedious pretty quickly.

The larger machines hold enough water to get you through several days of coffee. Fill it on Sunday and it's taken care of for the week. If more than one person in the house drinks coffee then a large tank is probably an important feature.

The everyday pick for most homes

The Keurig K-Express is the one we'd recommend for most people. It has a removable 42 oz tank so you're only refilling every few days rather than every cup. You get three cup sizes and a good 'strong' button if the normal brew comes out a bit thin. It doesn't come with a lot of extras, but most people won't miss them.

It's cuurently at one of the lowest prices we've seen. If you're after a Keurig that just works and doesn't take up much space then this is one to buy now.

When counter space is tight

The K-Mini is the tankless unit. It's very slim (under 5" wide) and the cord tucks away. It's ideal for a dorm room, office or a small apartment kitchen where space is limited. It brews between 6 to 12 ounces but you have to pour the water in each time.

Hold off on this one. It's listed at its usual price, and we've seen it drop every few weeks. There's no reason to pay full freight for a small machine. If you have the room, the K-Express costs about the same or less and saves you the daily pour.

Bigger tank, more cup sizes

Once you get past the basics, the two mid-range Keurigs are close cousins. Both hold more water and both give you more control.

K-Supreme

The K-Supreme comes with a 66 oz tank and brews four different cup sizes. Its main feature is MultiStream, which sprays the water over the pod from several points rather than just one. The idea is that you get a better, more even cup. Those who find a standard Keurig a bit on the weak side generally tend to like it.

The price is pretty much standard, and only dipped briefly a couple of times. If you're looking at this model, there's no downside to buying now. Just know that the price may dip lower during holiday sales.

K-Elite

Of the two the K-Elite is the one we'd go for at this price. It's got the largest tank (75 oz) of any here, five cup sizes, a strong button, an iced setting which brews a bolder cup so it stands up to melting ice and a hot water button for tea or oatmeal. The brushed metal finish also looks better on the counter than plain black plastic.

It's usually a lot more and this is pretty much the lowest price we've seen. For the features you get it's a good deal and the best value in the Keurig range.

If you sometimes need a full pot

Pods are excellent for one person in a hurry. They're not so great when you've got the whole family over and eight people want coffee in the morning. Brewing eight K-cups individually it's too much work and too expensive.

The K-Duo Hot & Iced solves just that. One side makes a single cup from a pod. The other side makes a full carafe from ground coffee, just like a standard drip machine. It can also make iced coffee. If you're a regular host or your house has a mix of pod users and pot users, this single machine replaces two.

It's at the lowest price we've seen and this is a good time to pick it up, especially if you may be expecting guests soon.

If what you really want is espresso

No Keurig makes real espresso. Some have a 'strong' button or a "shot" setting, but that's really just a smaller, stronger cup of coffee. If you're after lattes then you're better off looking at Nespresso instead.

The Nespresso Vertuo Next uses its own capsules, which carry a barcode so the machine knows whether you're making a big mug of coffee or a single espresso shot. This bundle comes with the Aeroccino, a small milk frother that heats and foams milk for lattes and cappuccinos. The catch is the pods. Vertuo capsules only come from Nespresso, and they cost more per cup than most K-Cups, so this makes the most sense if you'd otherwise be buying coffee out. The Nespresso Vertuo Next uses its own capsules which have a barcode on them so the machine knows whether you're making a large mug or a single shot. The bundle includes the Aeroccino, a small milk frother which heats and foams the milk for lattes and cappuccinos. The downside is the pods. Vertuo pods are only available from Nespresso and are more expensive per cup than most K-cups.

It's extremely close to the lowest price we've ever seen. This is the good time to buy if you're eyeing this model.

A few things that apply to every Keurig

  • Descale it. Hard water will leave mineral buildup which slows brewing down and makes coffee taste flat. Running a descaling solution through every few months keeps any of these machines working longer.
  • Try a reusable pod. Keurig sells a refillable filter cup which allows you use your own ground coffee. It's cheaper per cup and reduces the amount of plastic pods. Just make sure that it's compatible with your model before you buy.
  • Measure your mug. If you're predominantly using a tall travel tumbler, then make sure the machine goes up to 12 oz and that your cup fits underneath the spout before you commit.
